CHAMONIX

The French winter sport resort of Chamonix lies in south-eastern France, on the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc. Chamonix is home to 9086 people and is located 1032 metres above sea level. The famous ski resort is a tourist magnet and the centre of French Alpinism. The district is located in the Chamonix valley.

Mont Blanc is Chamonix's major landmark. Chamonix has become famous for its unique skiing area, with its highest point being the Aiguille du Midi. Chamonix is also a rallying point for free riders and extreme skiers. It is home to the National Museum for Ski Sport and Alpinism.

The two skiing ranges La Flégère and La Brevent are located in the area around Chamonix and are particularly suitable for tourist skiing. Further attractive ski resorts include Les Planards and Domain de Balme.
